We hebben een nieuw paper binnen gekregen over snelheid vs diskruimte.
Hier even een kleine samenvatting:
Het kraken van een wachtwoord is eigenlijk een mythe, want het is namelijk niet eens het wachtwoord dat wordt gekraakt, maar gewoon wordt geraden. De meeste wachtwoorden worden al sinds mensenheugenis geraden, vanwege het feit dat de meeste gebruikers kiezen voor een wachtwoord die ze gemakkelijker kunnen onthouden. Zo hadden de meeste UNIX servers standaard accounts, met standaard wachtwoorden (tegenwoordig vind je standaard wachtwoorden bij routers, maar ook BIOS chips of andere embedded systemen), odat het slechts enkel een kwestie van tijd was om het juiste wachtwoord te vinden. Een gast account was voldoende om de inhoud te bekijken van het wachtwoord bestand, al was het om het wachtwoord versleuteld in een 56bits(DES) encryptie te verkrijgen.
